A well written blog post is worth a hundred 5 paragraph essays, compare and contrast essays, or poems. (Ok, so I don't like poems.)

I'm glad you addressed this topic. I had actually been wondering if all of us would get out into the real world with big plans for blogging and have the schools reply with a resounding no on the topic. Nooooo you can't use the internet like that! It's a wonder school computer labs have computers at all.

I used to love paper journals in grade school. I could usually write whatever I wanted, and I could even fold over the page if I wrote something private. In high school, I hated journaling, because it wasn't journaling. It was mini-essays. Ew. What's wrong with open-ended journaling, hmmm? Put it on the internet, and bam, you have peer review and everything. I don't know about you, but that's my favorite part of my own online social blog- responses from my friends.

There has been a lot of talk about incorporating social networks such as MySpace and Facebook in the classroom. I just wrote a little bit about it on my blog. It doesn't really suprise me that more than half of american teens online have an account on one of these sites. Educators should really pay attention to these kinds of things that students are interested to try and incorporate it into the curriculum. Bethany Erickson and David Knapp's idea is very creative and sounds like something that students could really get into.

I'm glad another person enjoyed this breakout session as I did. I heard a lot of feedback from other students in our classroom that did not like Dr. Van Antwerp's presentation because it was "common sense" information that she gave. However, I feel that this common sense is what America's new teachers do not have enough of, and therefore lack a strong sense of.

I'm particularly happy that you pointed out the part about "the kids." It seems many people are motivated to work for "the kids," but actually may have underlying hidden motives that may be supported by "the kids" in actuality.

As I said, I'm glad you enjoyed it as I did, or at least it seems that you did, and I hope you were as inspired as I was to start teaching!
